Skultoflower by Stefano Bressani at MUPA Portofino
In 2016, Stefano Bressani presented Skultoflower at the Museum of the Park in Portofino (MUPA), where the work entered the permanent collection. After its preview at the international exhibition OPEN in Venice, the artist from Pavia consolidated his language between sculpture, design, fashion, and existential reflection.
A cubist flower between body and spirit
Standing three meters tall, Skultoflower is a monumental sculpture. Its corten steel base symbolizes the body and transformation, while a colorful neoprene cube rises as a symbol of the soul. The contrast between organic matter and rational form embodies the tension between impermanence and permanence.
The Maliumbas texture: a visual identity
A distinctive element of the work is the Maliumbas texture, created and patented by Bressani. This vivid, pop, and tribal surface acts as both visual narrative and inner language — a vocabulary that merges art, fashion, and experimentation.
A work between Venice and Portofino
After its debut in Venice, Skultoflower received the Arte Laguna Special Prize – OPEN Section and participated in the 11th Arte Laguna Prize. Its arrival in Portofino, under the direction of Daniele Crippa and curated by Serena Mormino, established the work among the greats of contemporary sculpture.
Today, Skultoflower is part of the MUPA collection alongside historic names such as Lucio Fontana, Arman, Guttuso, Pomodoro, and Man Ray.
A metaphor for the human condition
With Skultoflower, Bressani proposes a sculptural metaphor of existence — a hybrid between nature and artifice, between spirit and matter. The flower is not just beauty; it is transformation, deconstruction, and rebirth. As curator Serena Mormino writes, it is “a work to be worn with the eyes,” an invitation to look beyond the surface and experience art as an emotional and intimate journey.
