Skultoflower by Stefano Bressani at OPEN 19 Venice

2 September 2016 @ 8:00 - 2 October 2016 @ 17:00

The lagoon dresses in art: Skultoflower exhibited in Venice

Almost twenty years after its inception, OPEN – International Exhibition of Sculptures and Installations confirms itself as one of the most visionary events on the contemporary art scene. The 2016 edition transformed Venice into an open-air museum, where art meets everyday life, engaging both passersby and the urban landscape.

The installations, scattered among calli, fondamenta, and lagoon views, disrupt visual continuity and generate aesthetic short circuits that provoke reflection and wonder. OPEN 19 is much more than an exhibition: it is an immersive experience where the viewer becomes an active part of the work.

Skultoflower: the “dressed” sculpture by Bressani as a highlight in Venice

Among the exhibiting artists stands Stefano Bressani, master of Italian contemporary art, with his monumental Skultoflower, strategically positioned at the entrance of the Hilton Molino Stucky. After the success of Maliumbas Nature Sound at Casa Milan, Bressani brought to Venice a sculpture that perfectly synthesizes his poetic and material language.

Standing over three meters tall, Skultoflower rises from a corten steel stem — a symbol of transformation over time. From this metallic structure blooms a cube covered with Maliumbas texture, a hallmark of Bressani’s stylistic identity. The work fuses strength and delicacy, geometry and nature, industry and poetry.

A symbol of resilience and sustainability

The sculpture is made from recycled materials, in line with the artist’s ethical approach. The contrast between oxidizing metal and the visual lightness of fabric transforms the piece into a living organism, able to communicate with its viewers. A symbol of coexistence between the ephemeral and the enduring, the soft and the solid, humankind and time.

The curatorship is by Serena Mormino, art critic and president of the cultural association Amarte, who accompanies Bressani in this edition. “His works combine different suggestions,” she notes, “merging into a unique language, suspended between Dolce Vita, Pop Art, and the future.”

Within the context of OPEN 19, Skultoflower becomes the ambassador of a new Italian sculpture that unites craftsmanship and innovation, tradition and experimentation, transforming matter into vision.

An art to be lived, not just observed

With this installation, Stefano Bressani confirms his ability to create works that go beyond mere admiration — pieces that engage and interact. His Scultura Vestita invites the audience to a sensory and emotional experience where art becomes part of everyday life.
