Art, institutions, and community: Stefano Bressani’s Artist’s Head enters the history of the Carabinieri in Pavia
On June 6, 2022
During the celebration of the Foundation of the Carabinieri, Piazza San Pietro in Ciel d’Oro became a place of memory, respect, and gratitude. Enhancing the significance of this solemn moment, Pavian artist Stefano Bressani donated one of his most emblematic works: an Artist’s Head, created using his unmistakable fabric modeling technique.
The ceremony, one of the most heartfelt in the Pavia community, took place in front of the Provincial Command of the Carabinieri, a symbol of security and social cohesion. In this context, Bressani’s sculpture assumes deep meaning: a visual and symbolic tribute to the Carabinieri as icons of integrity, justice, and duty.
“My heads are the symbolic center of thought and action,” Bressani states. “This one, which I have the honor to donate to the Carabinieri of my city, is a tangible sign of esteem toward institutions and their importance in society.”

The Head becomes part of the permanent collection of the barracks, placed next to historic Carabinieri hats. Colonel Luciano Calabrò, Provincial Commander, welcomed the artist with words of gratitude and respect, highlighting the high cultural value of the initiative. A clear choice: to unite art and history, culture and service, in a shared path.

An artwork that speaks to the collective conscience
Two years later, in 2024, Colonel Marco Iseglio, the current Provincial Commander, officially renewed the gesture by welcoming Stefano Bressani into his office to present a formal certificate of esteem. An intimate, authentic moment confirming how art can forge profound bonds between seemingly distant worlds.
This is not a mere formality but a recognition of the human and symbolic value of the work — a bridge between the individual and the institution, between the language of form and that of daily service.
From the beginning, a rapport developed between the artist and the Colonel, built over time with shared looks, dialogues, and values. A connection beyond roles, reflecting a common vision: a Carabinieri force close to citizens, capable of listening, welcoming, and building.
Where art meets duty
In a time when reference points seem to fade, this reciprocal gesture becomes exemplary. Not just a celebration, but a profound connection between culture and institutions, between artist and territory.
This initiative proves that art can enter places of duty, remain there, and silently speak to those who traverse them every day — offering vision, thought, and reflection.
- An artist who enters not as a stranger, but as a witness.
- A commander who opens not just a door, but a dialogue.
- Here, where art and institution shake hands, a bridge is built.
And this bridge speaks to all.
