Stefano Bressani celebrates the Ponte Coperto of Pavia
The Palio del Ticino in Pavia, held in June 2014, saw contemporary art take center stage thanks to Stefano Bressani’s work. For the eighth edition of the event, the Pavia-born artist created the official banner for the Palio, celebrating one of the city’s most beloved symbols: the Ponte Coperto.
The Ponte Coperto: a symbol of unity
Bressani chose the Ponte Coperto as the subject for the Palio del Ticino, emblematic of the city’s identity. Rebuilt after World War II, the bridge connects the two banks of the Ticino River, uniting the city not only physically but also culturally and symbolically. For the artist, the bridge conveys a message of continuity and connection across eras and traditions.

Bressani’s work for the Palio del Ticino
Bressani’s famous Sculture Vestite transform ordinary fabrics into three-dimensional artworks. His unique technique gave life to a banner full of meaning, paraded through the streets of Pavia during the historical procession. The Palio del Ticino was thus enriched with a profound artistic interpretation, blending historical memory and contemporary language.
An artistic commitment to the city
Bressani sees his art as a dialogue with the community. His participation in the Palio del Ticino Pavia is not only an aesthetic tribute but also an act of social responsibility. The artist aimed to convey the deep connection between the city, its symbols, and traditions, offering a vision that draws from the past to imagine a shared future.
Art and identity at the heart of the event
Thanks to Bressani’s work, the 2014 Palio del Ticino confirmed its value not only as a sporting and folkloric event but also as a space for reflection on cultural identity. Art naturally integrated into the festival, once again demonstrating its power to unite people, stories, and perspectives.
