In the heart of Matera, among the city\u2019s ancient Sassi and its millennia-old memory carved in stone, artist Stefano Bressani received a prestigious recognition: the title of \u201cUomo Illuminato\u201d<\/strong> (\u201cEnlightened Man\u201d), awarded during a ceremony promoted by the Stati Generali delle Donne<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The event took place on January 25 at the former San Rocco Hospital \u2014 a historic and symbolic venue transformed into a cultural celebration space for the occasion. The award was presented by Marilena Antonicelli<\/strong>, Councillor for Equal Opportunities, in the presence of local authorities, artists, and cultural figures. <\/p>\n

The title of Uomo Illuminato was conferred by a scientific committee of thirty members<\/strong>, recognizing not only Bressani\u2019s artistic talent but also the ethical and symbolic<\/strong> depth of his research. His renowned Sculture Vestite<\/em>, made from used garments and recycled textiles, tell stories of humanity and transformation, restoring dignity and visibility to the feminine identity. <\/p>\n

According to the official citation, the artist \u201cweaves stories through fabric, blending craftsmanship and sensitivity into an expression that captures the essence of the feminine in moments of infinity.\u201d The textile thus becomes a living material \u2014 one that narrates emotion, memory, and fragility in a language that transcends the visible. <\/p>\n

Art as an ethical space: Bressani\u2019s vision<\/h2>\n

During the event, moderated by Isa Maggi,<\/strong> President of Stati Generali delle Donne, Bressani shared a profound reflection: \u201cHuman sensitivity, more than gender difference, is the foundation of every true dialogue.\u201d His words reinforced the idea of art not merely as formal beauty, but as an instrument of empathy, inclusion, and change<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

In this sense, the recognition received in Matera represents an act of cultural activism, affirming the artist\u2019s role as a conscious interpreter of his time.<\/p>\n

Bressani\u2019s stay in Matera<\/a> had a strong emotional impact. Struck by the city\u2019s \u201cupside-down architecture<\/strong>\u201d \u2014 carved downward into the rock \u2014 he found a parallel with his own creative process. His sculptures, too, are \u201cexcavated\u201d by subtraction, carved into fabric like grooves of memory.<\/p>\n

From this resonance was born the idea for a Progetto d\u2019Opera<\/strong> inspired by Matera, blending the city\u2019s identity with the artist\u2019s unique language in a dialogue between landscape, memory, and contemporary vision<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n
